Light the night is a suspense drama representing the red-light district of 1980s Taiwan. The love entanglements of the minor characters bring out the ills of the political society. The director brings the audience to see what is going on, but pushes the audience into a gray area of the issue.
The darkest part of the play is viewed in a blurred imagery. Instead of using the same method as in the beginning of previous TV dramas, it is a more abstract metaphor to bring out the pessimistic thoughts of disappointment in society.
